Should I calculate tip on pre-tax or post-tax amount?

Traditionally, tips are calculated on the pre-tax amount. Our calculator defaults to this method, but you can choose post-tax calculation if preferred.

What's the difference between the rounding methods?

"Round to nearest cent" gives exact amounts, "Round up" makes the total a whole dollar amount (easier to pay), and "Round down" reduces the final amount slightly.

How do I handle large groups with this calculator?

Our calculator handles groups up to 50 people. For very large groups, consider whether everyone had similar meal costs or if itemized splitting would be more fair.

Can I use this for delivery and takeout orders?

Yes! Adjust the tip percentage based on the service type. Delivery typically warrants 15-20%, while takeout might be 10-15% or a flat amount.

What if the service was exceptionally bad?

While 10% is our lowest preset, you can use the custom option for lower percentages. However, consider speaking with management about service issues.
